Joppa: A City for all people

We’ll journey to the land of the Bible this week. Just south of Tel Aviv in modern Israel sits the small and ancient port town of Joppa, or Jaffa as it’s known today. This town is where God sent Jonah out to call the people of Nineveh to repent of their evil ways and follow Him. Most of us know what happened in the story. Jonah, after a dramatic attempt to disobey God’s command, goes to the city and the people of Nineveh do in fact repent!

But as Chris will show us, Jonah’s reaction and God’s words to him show not only the wrong attitude of Jonah but also and more importantly the character of God. This lesson from this small town should leave us in awe of our great and caring God!

Up to Jerusalem Tour

40 years The Friends of Israel has been journeying to the land of the Bible. Walk where Jesus walked. Learn about the miracle of modern Israel! And watch as your Bible turns from black and white to full color.

Join us on the October tour or one of our other tours.

Acts 9

In the second half of our program Chris will tell the familiar story of the Apostle Peter from Acts 9. Here we find the story of Cornelius and Peter. We’ll learn about Peter’s dream in Joppa and his obedience to God to go to the Gentiles with the Gospel. It’s encouraging to see God’s character in both stories and His love for ALL people!

Apples of Gold: The Repentant Neighbor

Zvi and his wife saw a special family that used to live close to them. The former neighbors showed a picture of their son who had “repented” and became orthodox. As Zvi looked at the picture he explained how this was not true repentance. He then opened the Bible and showed them what true repentance looked like.

Zvi’s story is available in Elwood McQuaid’s book, “Zvi: The Miraculous Story of Triumph over the Holocaust,” available at our online store.

More stories from Zvi are also available in his book, “The Best of Zvi,” available at our online store.

The Friends of Israel Today and Apples of Gold theme music was composed and performed by Jeremy Strong.
