December 14, 2019 | Let’s Talk About Hanukkah, Part 1

As the year comes to a close, we want to share with you an opportunity to impact lives through this radio/podcast ministry. We need to raise $10,000 to meet our financial goals for this year.

Would you prayerfully consider a gift so we can continue to bring these truths to you and others as well?

HELP US MEET OUR GOAL

History of Hanukkah

Hanukkah and Christmas falls on the same week this year! And this week we are talking all things Hanukkah. We welcome Steve Herzig, North American Director here at The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry to the program. Steve grew up in an orthodox Jewish home and brings a personal perspective to Jewish holidays.

He and Chris will discuss everything from how to pronounce Hanukkah (how’s your guttural sounds?) to why the Feast of Dedication (another name for Hanukkah) is not mentioned in the Old Testament. It’s always fun having Steve in the studio, we know you’ll be encouraged and learn something new, we did!

The Feasts Of Israel: Seasons Of The Messiah

By Bruce Scott

Israel’s feasts play such an important role in understanding the context of both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Something we always try to stress is that the Bible you read during devotions throughout the week and the Bible you read on Sunday morning during church is a Jewish book, with writers writing with a Jewish worldview. Jesus is the Jewish Messiah and last I checked He didn’t celebrate Christmas or Easter, He celebrated Jewish festivals like Hanukkah and Passover! Learn about these feasts and festivals in “The Feasts of Israel: Seasons of the Messiah” by Bruce Scott.

Apples of Gold: Christmas and Hanukkah

As many Christians around the world are celebrating the Lord’s birth, Jewish people are celebrating Hanukkah, the festival of lights. Zvi visited an ultra-orthodox school and talked to some of the students about Christmas and Hanukkah. One student mentioned that Hanukkah was a “holy feast.” Zvi responds with a series of questions about Hanukkah and Christmas. His approach to these students is something we can all learn as we talk to our unbelieving friends this time of year.

Zvi’s story is available in Elwood McQuaid’s book, “Zvi: The Miraculous Story of Triumph over the Holocaust,” available at our online store.

More stories from Zvi are also available in his book, “The Best of Zvi,” available at our online store.
